## Rookie Dart Explodes in Giants' Preseason Win

A depth chart might tell you who's supposed to be starting, but on the field, things often unfold differently. That's precisely what happened Saturday in Buffalo, as New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart put on a show against the Bills in their preseason opener.  Dart finished the day 12 of 19 for 154 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his arm talent while also proving his athleticism with a 19-yard QB run.

"Yeah, it definitely didn’t seem too big for them," Giants general manager Joe Schoen said on the TV broadcast about Dart and fellow first-rounder Abdul Carter, who tallied three pressures in just three pass-rushing snaps. "And that’s what it seemed like this spring and even in training camp. Each day they continue to get better."

**Could Dart Shake Up the Depth Chart?**

The Giants released a depth chart Tuesday morning with veteran Russell Wilson listed as the starter, followed by Jameis Winston and then rookie Dart. This raised eyebrows considering Dart's prominent role in practice. 

"It never felt like it was too big for either of those guys," Schoen continued. "And I think that showed today."

During training camp, Dart has predominantly taken the second-team snaps, suggesting the Giants are aiming to accelerate his development. While Winston is likely seen as a more reliable backup at this stage,  Dart's performance Saturday undeniably adds another layer to the quarterback competition.

**Giants Bolster Edge Rush With New Blood**

The New York Giants added a formidable weapon to their defensive line with the third overall pick in the recent draft: Penn State's Abdul Carter. General manager Joe Schoen also secured the future of another defensive standout, exercising Kayvon Thibodeaux's fifth-year option. However, despite these moves, trade rumors continue to swirl around Thibodeaux.

**A Trade That Could Reshape Both Teams**

While Thibodeaux has averaged 8.3 sacks over three seasons with the Giants, the arrival of Carter and Brian Burns last offseason creates a surplus of talent at the edge rusher position.  This situation led to a potential blockbuster trade proposed by PFSN: 

* **Titans receive:** EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux
* **Giants receive:** 2026 2nd-round pick, 2027 4th-round pick


**Balancing Talent and Cap Space**

PFSN highlights the Giants' dilemma: "After drafting Abdul Carter third overall and trading for Brian Burns last offseason, the New York Giants now have a surplus of high-end edge rushers. That duo and Dexter Lawrence in the middle give New York a formidable front. The group’s overall talent has raised doubts about Kayvon Thibodeaux’s role."

The publication also points to the Giants' cap situation: "While the Giants publicly deny trade talks, roster construction and coming extension considerations make a move possible. Thibodeaux remains a valuable asset, having produced 21.0 sacks and 127 tackles in 43 career games and breaking out with 11.5 sacks in 2023. However, a wrist injury last season limited him to 12 games and six sacks, halting his momentum. For the Giants, trading Thibodeaux would clear a $9.97 million cap hit in 2025 and $14.75 million in 2026, allowing them to gain the necessary draft capital as they reshape their roster."
